Mixtape #01 | Argos Shivers

Throughout the year you will be able to find a brand new mixtape for each and every month, right here at Argos Barks.
Each mixtape will be dedicated to a particular theme, and we’re going to kick things off in the scariest possible way.
Argos Shivers is January’s mixtape, a collection of ten tracks that are meant to chill your bones and unsettle your nerves - it’s the perfect soundtrack for a horror movie.
Below you can find the tracklist as well as a small intro to each track; when you’re ready, scroll to the bottom to stream the mixtape. Enjoy!
Ben Frost - Híbakúsja
experimental
Iceland-based Australian artist Ben Frost is one of a kind. Classically-trained and now under the wing of Brian Eno, Frost plays with instruments and objects to create one of the most unnerving experiences ever.
Hildur Guðnadóttir - Overcast
cello / experimental
Also from the land of ice, cellist Hildur Guðnadóttir likes to take her weapon of choice to new, unsettling grounds. Never before has a cello sounded so threatening.
Yellow Swans - Opt Out
drone / noise
Chances are you have never heard of Yellow Swans before and you might not want to hear them again, but if you’re willing to dedicate certain times of the day to them, when a certain mood arises, they will become the cure for the soul. Noisy, scary, beautiful.
worriedaboutsatan - Heart Monitor [Her.Eyes.Like_Static Remix]
electronic
You need only read the name of this band to start wetting your pants - with a name like that, it’s hardly going to be Snow Patrol territory. This remix grabs the original by the throat and slams it against the wall, and I mean that in the possible way.
We Fell To Earth - Burn Away
trip-hop / electronic
It sounds like the Inception main theme, which is all you need to know. Loud horns, creepy voice and a chilly soundwall is what this trip-hop outfit is all about.
Tim Hecker - Where Shadows Make Shadows
ambient
The ambient genre is extremely elastic, it can go into different territories and evoke several emotions without stopping being just ambient. Tim Hecker knows a thing or two about this and shows it in this track, where you will feel trapped in a cage of sounds but will not want to get out.
Nedry - Apples & Pears
dubstep / indie / electronic
You might wonder just what the hell are Nedry. Dubstep? Indie? Post-rock? Whatever they are, they do it well. Okakita’s voice works wonders, giving the song an extremely desolate feeling.
Robert del Naja (Massive Attack) - Herculaneum
trip-hop
This track is the main theme to Gomorrah, a movie that was incredibly scary and had absolutely no soundtrack, bar this track that was used in the ending credits. It might be a single track but it carries the weight of a whole soundtrack.
Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse (ft. Vic Chesnutt) - Grim Augury
indie
From the genius of three geniuses comes this song about a dream that should be left unspoken, and yet here he is, singing about it, freaking us all out. Damn you.
Massive Attack - Flat of the Blade
trip-hop
The mixtape comes to an end with this track from Massive Attack’s latest album, one that might not be considered a general favourite but perhaps the only reason is the way the track flows threateningly, following disturbing lyrics and rather odd sounds.
