Sonar | dems
From Edinburgh comes a new name that is set to shine in the near future. Now settled in London, dems is the project of one Dan Moss, who with barely two tracks has already proved to have something very special going on in that head of his, having attracted the attention of basically everyone in a very short span of time.
Some time ago I had a brief chat with the man himself, who was kind enough to introduce himself and talk about his future plans. Up to now, dems has released two fantastic tracks of powerful, intelligent electronic pop. Whether you treat yourself to debut track Jarndyce vs Jarndyce or the newer Lioness, you’ll be immediately projected into a world of electronic beeps that blend surprisingly well with more gentle elements, creating a wonderful atmosphere that goes from euphoria to sorrow in a perfect flow.

This is what Dan had to tell us about his project:
Hello Argos Barks, I’m Dan, and I’ve been making music as ‘dems’ in Edinburgh for around four months. I have just released my second track, ‘Lioness’, to follow up my debut song, ‘Jarndyce vs Jarndyce’, which got a very pleasant (and surprising!) slice of attention through Xfm and the now defunct NME Radio, and both tracks have received some very kind reviews on blogs from Scotland and beyond. I make my music on my own, and operate out of my very portable tiny bedroom studio! I tend to take quite a while over things as I wouldn’t like to release anything that I’m not 100% happy with at the time. My set up includes a couple of guitars, a decent mic, my laptop and some good audio software, a big Roland Groovebox and my latest geeky fascination, Korg samplers.
I’m moving down to London in the next week, because of a job offer basically, but when I’ve released four or five tracks in the near future, I’ll be taking myself to the live stage, which I’m pretty excited and nervous about. I’ll be coming up to Edinburgh all the time, not least because my girlfriend’s still up here! So I’ll see you at a gig sometime yeah?!
